Over the last 18 years, Christopher Kave, the Founder and Principal of Aurora North Software has worked with 60 individual law firms and government agencies. As a former Manager of Automated Practice Systems at Fish & Richardson, Chris implemented a sophisticated system for managing workflow associated with document intake, management and routing.

The Intellectual Property Automation (IPA) application has constantly been refined and ported to commercial off-the-shelf platforms and technology (ASP.net and SharePoint), and is currently in it’s third release.
Intellectual Property Law Automation Highlights:
- US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) download application - An automated tool to simplify and streamline the intake of USPTO documents.
- The Master Data Dictionary - Client and matter data is consolidated into a single Master Data Dictionary database. Through connectors and other applications are kept in sync.
- SharePoint WorkPortal – A SharePoint site using three core perspectives:
- (1) the My Perspective, which will present My Docket, My Matters, etc,
- (2) the Matter Perspective, which will present a consolidated view of the matter and,
- (3) the Client Environment, which will present a consolidated view of the Client.
- New Matter Intake - Client and Matter information is collected, validated, and approved, then using automation, the information is propagated to other applications.
- Client Information Access - , Client Extranets are configured to allow clients access to the IPA environment.
- Automated Document Distribution and Workflow - providing documents and core matter information to appropriate legal and administrative staff at appropriate times.
